Job / Employer Description:

After graduating from the University of Missouri in December, I spent a few months freelance writing for various companies like Juice and Meredith Corporation.  Most of my writing has been specifically for the web, and I have recently been given the duties of being the YPC blog manager!  I have been very fortunate to land coveted freelancing opportunities with such wonderful and prestigious places of employment, and I would encourage anyone trying to break into the publishing world to search for employment within either of the two aforemetioned companies!

Currently, I am on the PR team at Two Rivers Marketing!  I am truly enjoying my time there and I could not be happier with the work that I am doing.

Activities / Involvement in the Community: Since my move to Des Moines, I have become involved with the YPC Marketing and, very recently, Membership committees.  I am currently attending new member training meetings for Junior League (a wonderful women's organization that promotes volunteerism and aides in developing leadership skills in women), and I am a member of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Favorite Things to Do in Des Moines

Luckily, a few of my friends from college also ended up in Des Moines, so I have been exploring the city with them and usually can be found on Court Avenue on the weekends.  Most evenings, I enjoy walking/running after my little dog, Gus, at Grey's Lake!  I enjoy films at Fleur Cinema & Cafe and meeting people for a chat over tea at Mars Cafe or one of the various coffee shops downtown!

For ideas on where to go/what to do around Des Moines, I frequent Juice's new online entertainment guide at desmoines.metromix.com!

Something People Don't Know About Me: I once starred in a couple of television commercials, both of which (thankfully!) never aired, and a zombie musical (don't ask!).  Needless to say, my acting career ended as quickly as it began!
Anything Else You Want People to Know

In regards to the Young Professionals Connection, I can not recommend it strongly enough to those who are thinking of joining or becoming more involved in the organization.  It has been an invaluable outlet for both networking and further developing marketable communication and leadership skills.  Since I am hoping to obtain a career in PR/marketing, the first YPC committee that I joined was the Marketing Committee, led by Jeremy Schultz.  After a few short months, I have already had several opportunities to assist in YPC's marketing efforts, giving me ample additions to my resume!  The Young Professionals Connections is certainly an organization in which you get out of it what you put into it, and it provides an arena in which to cultivate personal and professional interests.
