| Job / Employer Description: |
Work with large employers and provide consultation for insurance and wellness programs A rewarding opportunity I have within my job role is involvement in community health and wellness fairs, "health talks", and a captive audience to spread the wellness message to ultimately make an impact on how people think/view their health, and reassure them that we didn't get to this point overnight, but with each small step we can gradually make our way back to better health. I love seeing the "light bulb go on" so to speak as members of the community begin to understand the impact their health has on their quality of life and their own pocketbook. |
| Activities / Involvement in the Community: |
I am on the Young Variety Board for 2010/11 where I'm responsible for planning volunteer opportunities for members throughout the year, as well as coordination/recruiting of volunteers for events. For Whyld Girls (Children & Family Urban Ministries), I serve as a Life Coach to a 12-year-old girl. We meet weekly to discuss/set goals, listen/support, assist with homework, try new things/experiences, be a positive influence and role model. I also assist on the Advisory Committee to plan/implement a fundraising event for approximately 100 people to raise funds for college scholarships for high school seniors. For YPC, I have served on the Charitable, Civic, Social, & Professional Development Committees from 2004 to date |
| Favorite Things to Do in Des Moines |
I have been a member of YPC since 2004 and have met so many great people, participated in some pretty fun and informative events, and continue to be amazed at the creativity and quality of new events we put on each year. There are so many great things to do in this city!! I love finding a patio to dine on, trying all the new restaurants popping up around town, Yoga in the park @ Gray's Lake, checking out the farmer's market, any of the fantastic venues for live music, boating, walking paths and biking, participating in charity events and "walks for the cause", volunteering for great events that give back to the community - i.e. the Principal Charity Classic and Hy-Vee Triathlon. |
| Something People Don't Know About Me: |
I have chewed gum pretty much everyday of my life since 7th grade. Okay, on a more serious note, I have a passion for helping our youth and for improving the health of myself and the people around me. Most of my days are focused around these goals, and trying to be as creative as possible to get others psyched up about these things as well - so together, we can ensure long and fulfilling lives for all of our fellow Iowans. |
