| Activities / Involvement in the Community: |
I'm a member and volunteer at the Des Moines Art Center. I also serve as secretary for Art Noir. Art Noir's focus is to encourage young professionals to learn and promote the arts for future generations. I am a member of YPC, specifically with the Charitable Committee. Our recent project was organizing the YPC Clothing Drive, in conjunction with AIB, to donate clothes to AIB's Reichardt Clothes Closet. I'm a volunteer and a board member for the American Diabetes Association Central Iowa Chapter. I help the ADA in educating and awareness of the effect that diabetes has worldwide. I'm a member of the Young Des Moines Social Club, which promotes the positive attributes and abundance of opportunities that are here in Des Moines for the 22-40 age group. I am on the Des Moines Knight Club, which is the Des Moines chapter of the Wartburg Alumni Association. There are over 1,300 alumni that live in the Golden Circle region. We host an annual alumni picnic in August, a Happy Hour in January, and a golf outing in May to raise proceeds for local non-profit agencies and scholarships for 5 Des Moines-area students who are attending Wartburg. |
| Favorite Things to Do in Des Moines: | Attend Farmers Market Touring the State Capitol Going to and supporting local events, whether in music or arts Attending high school state tournaments in February and March Socializing with friends and acquaintances Going to the State Fair |
| Something People Don't Know About Me: |
I don't root for Iowa or Iowa State during football season, because Wartburg is the only team that I pledge my allegiance to. I bleed only orange and black for the Knights! I prefer going to small college football games because it's more intimate and special. To me, this is what real college football is about. I'm a local and sports history buff. I love learning and researching about things. I'm naturally introverted, so it takes a while for me to become comfortable around new people and warm up. I usually don't have a lot to say during a conversation, I use writing as way to communicate. I listen to different genres of music, but I am a big fan of Motown, 70's and 80's music. |
| Anything Else You Want Us to Know: |
I feel strongly that if you decide on volunteering or joining an organization, do it for the right reasons. If you are joining just to pad your resume, then you are wasting your time, because you will not learn from the experience. Take the time to learn about an organization that interest you and determine if you are a match with a group or not. |
